Almost everyone has heard of MP3s these days. For those that are new to the concept, it's a file format used to convert music from any source - CD, vinyl etc into small(er) file sizes so that they can be played on a PC/MAC or portable MP3 player

If you've come here looking for downloads. Sorry, you're at the wrong site. This page is only about my collection!

collectionfor a downloadable HTML list of ALL my MP3 encoded music in ZIP format. (Last updated: December 2006)

(You may need a program like WinZip to unzip the HTML file).

Many years ago, when the idea of converting music to files that you could play on your PC was new, I was dabbling in the then 'black art'! The software was crude, PCs were very slow, and it took ages to sample a typical CD. But I still thought it would be a good idea to transfer as many of my albums and singles as possible onto my PC. I spend a lot of time working in front of my PC, and to have my favourite music on hand was a good idea

I started the conversion process in 1993. On the 7th March 2004, I managed to finish converting all my existing albums and singles - At the time that was over 5700 tracks; around 275 hours of continuous music

Why would anyone want to spend time doing all this? Well, imagine..

..being able to select a unique compilation from your whole music collection of music at the click of a mouse for a party or just your own listening pleasure

..creating your own custom compilations on CD for the car/walkman etc

Here is another benefit that's only really become workable in the last view years - Once the music has been sampled, just hook up your PC's sound card to your Hi Fi system, using a wireless gismo and you have ALL your music collection available to play through your hi-fi...in any order...just at the push of a few buttons. That means no more getting up and having to change the CD when the album has finished. How lazy it that??

These days, the software is much easier to use, and PCs are a lot faster. I use Media JukeBox for the PC. Click HERE for their web site.

Their software makes the job a lot easier, it samples the tracks, downloads the album and track names from the internet, (and, if you want them, the lyrics too!). It then catalogues all the tracks in any way you like on the PC - by album, by artist, by music style etc etc. Finally, it downloads the album covers from the internet so that you can see the album cover on your PC monitor whilst the music is playing.

It therefore makes managing your music collection a zillion times easier than fumbling through a stack of vinyl or CD music
