My love of technology got me interested in MP3s long before the word ‘MP3’ became part of everyday language. Back in 1997, I discovered a few PC utilities that would convert CDs to MP3 format - at the time, it just seemed like a clever thing to do. The technology was slow and a bit rough round the edges - I recall that it took around 20 minutes to sample one TRACK!

 

As PCs got faster and the technology became more refined, I decided to digitise ALL my CDs. Technically as of current copyright law (in the UK anyway), I believe that it is still illegal to convert to a different format even if you do own the original CD - I’m working on the principle that there are much bigger crimes going on out there, and I’m probably way down the list for a bust! :)
